Ok, I got a little selfish on this one... As many of you know I was one
of the earliest adopters for the Solstice. Flying 2800 miles across
the country to pick her up in September of 2005, then driving it 3100
miles home.... Why the extra 300 miles..Wrong Turns! Which is how my car
(and me) got the nick name the "LOSTSOL"...
Unfortunately about a year ago I was out doing time trials at the
Firebird International Raceway on the 13 turn 1.8mile Road coarse where
another car decided to push me wide in a turn and I hit a concrete wall
doing about 50Mph! Needless to say the other driver was very sorry...
as was I when I was released from the paramedics only to find my First
1K Solstice totaled!
Thin light clouds drifted throuth the air. Barely any cars on the
road. Cool crisp January morning. An enthusiastic group of people
assembled behind the car wash on Ray road at 10AM Friday morning. A
few had gotten "bad ice" the night before, but all were in good spirits
and ready for a run. We headed out for Tucson and had a relaxing drive
on the way down. Mark and Sherry made sure that all nine of the cars
stayed together. We had lunch at Sonic and were quickly on our way out
to Gates Pass.
We found spots to park all together and enjoyed the beauty of the view
landscape surrounding the area. It was a perfect place for a photo
opportunity. Soon we wended our way through Gates pass and out to
route 86 toward Kitt Peak. The magical beauty of New Years Day means a
distinct lack of traffic on the road. We enjoyed the ride to the top
of Kitt Peak only catching a little gravel on the way. Some saw snow,
but the weather was beautiful. The wind was calm and the sun warmed
you up immediately. We drove up the mountain top down and enjoyed the
wind in our hair. We could not have asked for a better day.
On the way down we stopped is several pull outs for some excellent
shots of the cars. It is always refreshing to stop the car, climb out
and engage in scintillating conversation with our friends. The bottom
of the hill came all too soon, but our spirits were still at the top of
Kitt Peak, at the observatory. We stayed together well and got split
up by the lights in South Tucson as we were headed to the restaurant.
After a short break for gasoline, we were all together as we rounded
the corner and arrived at our destination for dinner. The Silver
Saddle Steakhouse had us set up in a flash. The meal was fantastic,
the conversation was lively and entertaining. YOU should have been
there!!! Until we meet again...Happy Trails....[MORE PICS]
It breaks my heart to have to post this. On Saturday night after our Tail of the Dragon Banquet a few members took it upon themselves to go run the Dragon one last time before they went home Sunday. One member Nellie Tubbs aka bntn on the Sky forum lost her life during that run. Details of the accident are not important, remembering Nellie and her family is...
Our prayers go out to her family and her partner William Fitch.
Your National GM Roadster Club will be holding a series of car wash's over the coming weeks to raise money to benifit the family of Nellie.
Our Community is small and everyone is very close and it's times like these that the good in or community really shines through.
It's
Summer time and it's Hot! So to make the summer a little bit more
bareable your National Club has partnered up with a few of our
communities leading manufactures to bring you some Cool Items for your
Kappa!
This
is a brand new product, we had so many requests for a Fender lighting
kit that we went to work and after months of R&D we came up with
the perfect solution! This kit has 42micro LED's (21 on each side)
encased in a watertight module. This kit can be wired directly to the
running lights of the car (please check with local laws) or you can opt
for either a Show Battery Pack or a Remote On/Off module.
The base kit included all necessary pre-wired hardware to connect the
kit to your running lights (or any 12V source). The kit installs in
under 60 minutes and requires you to drill a small 5/16 hole in each
fender to allow for wiring.
Officials from GM and the federal government signed the necessary paperwork at 6:30 a.m. at the offices of Weil, Gotshal & Manges, the company's chief bankruptcy counsel, according to the New York Times. The signing ended 40 days under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, a period that began on June 1.
The federal government holds 61 percent of the new General Motors Co., which will retain the Chevrolet, Cadillac and GMC brands.
Other General Motors brands, such as Hummer, Opel, Pontiac, Saturn, have been sold or are in the process of being sold.
Plans call for the new company to become publicly traded sometime in 2010. Details of the reorganization will be announced later on Friday.
GM Roadster has been very involved with the Tuning of these awesome roadsters from the very beginning. Steve, GMR's official tuner, has worked with over 300 club members over the past few years to get their roadsters tuned to perfection! One of the biggest challenges we have had is the way the industry is able to tune your car. To this point the only way to get your Kappa performance tuned is to either have it done locally, send your ECM in for tuning, or to purchase a second ECM entirely.
GM Roadster is excited to announce the release of our new "Virtual Tuner" Kit. You no longer need to pull the ECM out of your car and mail it half way across the country or purchase a second ECM to get that added Horsepower. Now you can have the convenience of your own personal tuner in the comfort of your own home. That is how the "V-Tuner" works: you place your order online via the GM Roadster Member Store and we then send you the V-tuner in the mail. It's simple, you plug the V-tuner into the OBDII port on your car and the other end into a Broadband internet connection. Press the power button and the unit will automatically connect to our server here in Arizona. We are now able to performance tune your Kappa as if we were standing right next to you! You can get a truly individual tuning experience without ever leaving your home! Gains vary based on other modifications and fuel but we typically see cars reach 312Hp and 361Lbs of Torque! Pricing for the Virtual tuner kit is still much lower than other tuning shops and they still require you to mail your ECM all over the country.

As many of you may know, with GM losing money at the rate of more than a billion dollars a month, the future of the Saturn brand remains uncertain. Once a crown jewel for GM, many fear that the Saturn brand is now on the chopping block, and that under pressure from Congress to make MAJOR cuts before any additional loans are given, GM may throw the baby out with the bathwater and completely eliminate the Saturn brand.
In response to her concerns about the future of Saturn, Barbara Collins, a Saturn customer and enthusiast, has created a video which shares the reasons behind her passion for the Saturn Brand, and at www.ForeverSaturn.com, her dealer helped her post the video and created an online petition that hundreds of people have already signed.
For many SKY owners, this may be the FIRST Saturn you have ever owned. If your purchase and ownership experience was one that turned you into a Saturn enthusiast, we encourage you to take a look at the video and sign the petition at www.ForeverSaturn.com.
Last January, we created our first "Limited Edition" club t-shirt, which listed all of the clubs then in existance. We produced only in a limited quantity of this shirt, and it has become sort of a collector's item as many people have asked how they can get them.
So, we are doing this again for 2009, and just like last year, you need to pre-order this shirt to guarantee that you will get a copy.
The beautifully designed artwork features the "2009 Limited Edition" logo on the front and a map of North America with the websites of all the GM Roadster Clubs proudly displayed on the back.
We are producing these in a Men's charcoal grey for $20 including shipping and a sleek Woman's v-neck for $23.
Please hurry, because once these go to print, we will not re-produce them (hence the Limited Edition status).
UPDATE: The good news is that we just heard that Saturn 360 magizine is back in print, as of Spring 2009!
The bad news is that Saturn 360 subscribers were recently informed that Saturn 360 magazine will no longer be published as a print magazine in order to "save some trees."
The good news is that trees will be saved, and the decision to publish the magazine online also makes it freely available to everyone, not just paid subscribers.
Saturn 360 magazine is an incredibly well produced lifestyles magazine targeted at the profile of typical Saturn owners, a little older and upscale, concerned about the environment, etc. Each issue is a beautiful piece, a coffee-table magazine that will, of course no longer be available on your coffee table.
In this quarter's issue, there are only a few mentions of the Saturn SKY, including:
Page 11 - Project Runway Designers get "Creative Impuse" from SKY
Page 17 - SKY offers Best-in-Class Fuel Economy
Back Page Reviews - Automedia calls the SKY “ …a Hawaiian shirt in a closet of grey flannel suits.”
While some people are disappointed that we won't be seeing this magazine in the mail anymore, we are hoping that it's availability to EVERYONE online will allow more people to enjoy it. If you would like to be automatically notified of new issues, go to www.saturn360online.com and click on SIGN ME UP to register to receive email notifications.
